The Porsche 911 got its name from its internal development code at Porsche, which was 901. The car was initially introduced as the Porsche 901 at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt in 1963. However, due to a trademark dispute with Peugeot, Porsche had to change the model designation. Peugeot claimed the rights to three-digit model numbers with a “0” in the middle, so Porsche had to find an alternative. In 1964, the Porsche 901 was officially renamed the Porsche 911 before it went into production. The “911” not only preserved the original essence of the model designation but also quickly became iconic in the automotive world. Since then, the Porsche 911 has become one of the most recognizable and enduring sports cars, maintaining its original name and evolving through multiple generations while staying true to its distinct design and performance characteristics.

Jeffrey A. Stapleton was born in 1960 in the central farmland of Tipton, Indiana, an area renowned for its loud shouting, expansive fields of corn and beans and rampant exaggeration about tractors. He went to art school, but didn’t really pay attention and then got a job with a Dayton, Ohio art studio where he was famed for scribbling silly characters, drawing without looking and such. Probably. A chance meeting with a new design firm saw him cast in the role that turned into a career and the rest is history. Except for jet packs, which are the future. More to come I'm sure.
